About Abington Township Volunteer Fire Department
Our History
Established in 1968, Abington Township Volunteer Fire Department has been serving our township and the surrounding areas for over 55 years. The Department began with only a used pumper, 800-gallon tanker truck with a mounted pump and a 1,000-gallon Fold-A-Tank and was stored in a renovated garage of the very first appointed fire chief Curtis Gilmore. It all started with a very dedicated group of 22 active members and 21 reserve firefighters, of which 11 were the very first in Indiana's history's women firefighters. To This day Abington Township Volunteer Fire Department hold true to tradition having 15 active firefighters, 3 being women and 1 of them holding the proud rank of lieutenant.

Our department offers a wide range of services to the community including fire suppression, rescue operations, non-transport emergency medical services, and community outreach programs.
Meet Our Chain of Command
Chief Mike Taylor
Chief Taylor has been with Abington Township Volunteer Fire Department Fire Department for over 29 years. He is responsible for overseeing all operations and ensuring that our department is always prepared to respond to emergencies.
Head Advisor Steve Keiser
Steven Kaiser has over 34 years of experience in the fire service and 5 of those years of service have been with the Abington Township Volunteer Fire Department. He is responsible for advising Cheif Taylor and the other officers on administrative needs in the department and operational tasks.
Lieutenant Lyndsey Boggs
Lieutenant Boggs serves the Abington Township Volunteer Fire Department with 20 years of fire experience and 10 years of Paramedic experience. Her department responsibilities include Emergency Medical Services Training Officer and Equipment Coordinator.
Fire Chaplain David Sangster
Chaplain Sangster comes to Abington Township Volunteer Fire Department with a rich history of faith and brotherhood. He is the first Chaplin in our department's history. His department duties include not only being a first responder but also the duties of critical incident stress debriefing, emotional support, and counseling.

Like most departments our home has become to small for our needs and is in constant need of costly repairs to stay in operational standards. This continues to put a toll on our department and our taxpayers because at one point our firehouse was condemned causing no public entry. If you would like to make a donation to helping build a new firehouse we greatly appreciate it.

Whitewater Valley REMC Round UP
WVREMC awarded our department a $1000.00 grant to help repair our air cascade system and purchase 45 min air bottles. We want to say thank you for giving back. When you Round Up your bill it goes to helping local non-profits like ours in the community.
State Farm Insurance and NVFC
Our department was 1 of 100 departments in the nation that State Farm Insurance and NVFC awarded a grant for 5 laptop computers to help us continue furthering our education. This helps us with staying up to date on training and learning new techniques and meeting the high standards set every year.
Reid Health Community Engagement
Reid Health Community Engagement donated 2 AED's to our department to help replace our old outdated one's. This generosity helps keep our department working as a non-transport BLS provider and allows us to have up to date life saving equipment for the community we care for. Drip Drop Grant by NVFC
Our department was 1 of 1000 department's to be awarded 2 cases of Drip Drop Electrolyte Drink mix to help our firefighters stay hydrated when it counts most. Drip Drop help replenish essential vitamins and minerals lost during duties on the job.
